📓 Responsibilities Quick Landing Page Redesign

Overview

Artifice VR was a startup founded by a friend that aimed to enhance the experience of buying and selling art via virtual & mixed reality viewing experiences. They asked me to redesign their landing page and digital storefront. They wanted a design that was more welcoming and facilitated buyer browsing. They asked that I retain their primary color pallete and brand elements.

My approach

With my redesign, I chose to prioritize three key design principles:

1. Open the front door

The existing landing page design felt closed-off and uninviting. It did an excellent job at explaining how the company platform worked, but it failed to entice users, especially buyers, to engage any deeper with the site. First impressions are incredibly important for ecommerce sites, so I paid special attention the very first screen on the site.

2. Highlight what sets Artifice VR apart

Art ecommerce sites are a dime a dozen. The team knew that it was important to highlight what sets this platform apart. I reworked their existing copy and graphic in an effort to succinctly and clearly describe their value proposition.

3. Optimize the site for the buyer

Every marketplace economy must at some point contend with the chicken and egg problem, or the dilemma of finding buyers when you have no sellers or finding sellers when you have no buyers. Up to this point, the landing page did not really address this dilemma. It straddled the middle of catering to buyers and sellers. Conversations with the founding team revealed that they actually were doing just fine engaging with sellers via other channels. I chose to be opinionated with the landing page and optimize the site for the buyer because 1) the team was struggling to find buyers, 2) they already demonstrated they could find seller partnerships, and 3) at scale, the majority of visitors of this site would be buyers.
